Extracurriculars

Art Club

The Visual Arts Department also offers opportunities outside the classroom through Art Club. Art Club meets every first Tuesday of the month and does a wide variety of activities including service, trips, and projects. Art Club has visited places such as The Carnegie Gallery in Covington, the CAC in Cincinnati, Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park, and St. Louis. Projects have ranged from glass blowing to ceramics and murals. Service projects include participation with the Flying Pig Marathon, Kate Geiger Memorial Breast Cancer Walk, and the Northern Kentucky Children’s Advocacy Center.

Pep Band

The SHDHS Pep Band performs at school events such as athletic events, pep rallies, and open house.  The Pep Band consists of those students who would like to help build the Crusader Spirit as needed throughout the school year.

Plays / Musicals

From Ancient Egyptian pyramids to the yellow brick road in Muchkin-land and so many places in between, SHDHS Theater pushes the imagination of Crusaders who have the courage to take that step on the SHDHS stage. Speakeasies, Austrian mountains, and the Haitian islands are just a small sample of the amazing places SHDHS Theater takes our students and the audiences every year.

The philosophy of the drama department is to allow students the opportunity to create new characters and to express those characters onstage in a compelling manner that shares a story and a message with their audience. All students may participate in many fashions and functions to bring the play to life on stage as one community.

SHDHS offers the opportunity for all students in all grade levels to audition and perform in the Fall Play, which is a non-musical production. The auditions are announced and help in September and the show is performed the weekend before Thanksgiving. The Fall Play helps students explore character development and learning the importance of blocking.

SHDHS offers the opportunity for all students in all grade levels to audition and perform in the Spring Musical. The auditions are announced and held in December and the show is performed a weekend in March. The musical helps students explore their ability to sing, dance, and perform while creating relationships with all others onstage.
