Summer Programs
Many opportunities await students interested in attending a summer program. It could be for college credit, to expand your horizons and enhance your resume’, to explore career options, or increase your skills. A few are offered for free, however, most will have a fee. Keep in mind that many of those with a fee offer scholarships or financial aid. Watch the deadline dates. Deadlines may be listed, however, occasionally these are rolling deadlines and the program could be filled before the stated date. Do not hesitate to contact the program with any questions you may have.
If you have any questions on summer programs, please feel free to stop by the Guidance Office, email or call a school counselor at (859) 525-5844.
Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs
-Open to current freshmen, sophomores, and juniors
-This three-week residential program will immerse students in a creative space and arm them with the tools needed to unleash their innate entrepreneurial spirits for the betterment of Kentucky. Motivated teams of high school students develop a business model, design a prototype, and pitch their startup to a large audience and panel of judges. At GSE, students learn about the opportunities, benefits and pitfalls of taking a business concept from the idea phase to pitching it to potential investors. GSE does not look at GPA or test scores because some of the best entrepreneurs aren’t necessarily the best test takers. They look for creative thinkers who can work hard. Those who attend are often eligible for more scholarship opportunities when applying to colleges.
-See Mr. Sarge for more details on GSE
-Deadline: January 20, 2021

Those who are accepted will attend this residential program for free. You will want to start this application process early. Those who attend are often eligible for more scholarship opportunities when applying to colleges.
-See Mr. Sarge for more details on GSA
-Deadline: January 10, 2021

Governor’s Scholars Program
-Open to juniors
-The Kentucky Governor’s Scholars Program strives to enhance Kentucky’s next generation of civic and economic leaders. The program provides academic and personal growth through the balance of a strong liberal arts program with a full co-curricular and residential life experience. Students must complete an application and compete with others from across the state to be accepted. Those selected attend the 5-week program free of charge on a Kentucky college campus. Participation in GSP brings more scholarship opportunities when applying to colleges.
-SHDHS students attend informational meetings with Mr. Sarge and commit to the application process in September/October.
