SHDHS School Board Member Roles and Responsibilities

COMMUNICATION

• Serve as a liaison between the board and the parish or group represented.
• Share meeting minutes with pastor and publicize when possible.
• Publicize board member’s name in in parish bulletins or website to encourage communication from the parish to the board member.
• Share any questions or concerns from parishioners at future board meetings and follow up at a later time.
• Board members should notify their pastor by May 1st if they do not plan to return so a replacement can be found by the start of the next school year.

ADVISOR

• As described by diocesan policy, the board acts in advisory capacity and is not a decision making body.
• Members advise the principal on issues brought before the board – either by the principal or other members.
• Members are encouraged to serve on active committees.

EVALUATION

• Work with other board members to complete the Principal’s Evaluation Form provided by the diocese near the end of the school year.
• Examine and approve the school budget as presented by the finance committee.
