SHDHS will be implementing NTI for the first Fridays this semester (Sept. 4, Oct. 2, Nov. 6, Dec. 4) and on inclement weather days. On these days, students will be required to attend online classes from home. Click here to view the NTI  schedule for First Fridays and snow days. Please note, this schedule is slightly different than the NTI day that took place on August 21.

We believe this approach will provide a number of benefits including:

  • Fine-tuning synchronous and asynchronous instruction should COVID-19 force a move to full-time NTI
  • Increasing experience for future online learning at the collegiate level
  • Additional professional development for faculty and staff
  • Reducing missed school days for inclement weather

Thirty years and many stories later, Dave Otte is ready to bow out gracefully from his leadership at St. Henry District High School, Erlanger. His long tenure started with a phone call, one Mr. Otte credits as the work of divine providence. After teaching for 14 years in Erlanger, he worked for a textbook publishing company for two years as a developmental editor of math textbooks. In the summer of 1990 he received a phone call from Father Paul Wolfzorn, who was on the board at the time, and asked if he would be interested in the job as principal at St. Henry. Mr. Otte didn’t know then it would be his last job interview. Click here to read more.

Below is the plan that we will follow (Tuesday, May 26 – Thursday, May 28) for students to return books, graduation gowns, and other school-owned items and clean out their lockers.

This process will follow all of the guidelines that are in place at this time regarding COVID-19. This is not a social event and we will try to be as efficient as possible. All materials that belong to the school must be returned at this time.

The schedule will be as follows:

TUESDAY, May 26

9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Last names A – D

12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Last names E – K

WEDNESDAY, May 27

9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Last names L – O

12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Last names P – R

THURSDAY, May 28

9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Last names S – Z

12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Open to those not able to make assigned time

PROCESS:

  • Everyone will be required to wear masks during this time.
  • The process will start at the main front door.
  • We will only allow 10 students in the building at a time. Other students will need to wait outside and make sure that they are social distancing.
  • Students will need to bring all materials that need to be returned (textbooks, senior gowns, borrowed Chromebooks, surface computers, computer chargers, etc.)
  • Computer-related items should be taken to the media center.
  • Seniors will return their graduation gown in the lobby as you enter (you keep the cap and tassel).
  • As students enter, they will be given a copy of their 2019-2020 schedule and a bag. The schedule will have the student’s locker number and combination on it.
  • Traffic will be one way only, starting with the first hallway. Students will head down the first hallway to their locker.
  • Students will need to clean out their locker. Place any unwanted items in the bag and take it with them. They will deposit all garbage in the dumpster (by the soccer field) as they leave.
  • When students are finished with their locker and it is completely cleaned out, they should close the locker and put the lock back on unlocked. The students may have three groups of items: their textbooks, anything they don’t want placed in the garbage, and anything that they want to take home.
  • All textbooks will be taken to the media center. There will be stations set up by grade level. Students will take their books to the teacher at the station for their grade level. The teacher will also have a copy of the students’ 20019-2020 schedules in order to check off the books as they are returned.
  • Once textbooks have been returned, students will leave the school by the doors that open to the soccer field (down the hallway with the trophy cases). Garbage should be placed in the dumpster.
  • Once the students have completed everything, they will need to get back in their cars and depart from the school property.

OTHER INFORMATION:

  • If someone has a Yankee Candle order to pick up, that will be done in the trophy case hallway as the student leaves the building.
  • Only the hallways and media center will be available to the students. All doors to the classrooms and restrooms will be locked.
  • One parent may accompany the student if necessary.
  • Parents should contact the office to make arrangements to pick up any medications that are in the front office.
  • All lunch accounts will need to be paid up. For seniors and students not returning, you may request a refund by filling out the lunch refund paperwork on our website.
  • Students not able to be here during those three days will need to contact the office to set up a time the following week to bring back their materials.

Congratulations to our Crusaders of the week for May 11-15: Rachel Stanchek, Riley Bowen & Danny Veselsky!

Ms. Kaiser nominated Rachel Stanchek as AP Human Geography Crusader of the Week. Rachel has been an NTI rockstar and an amazing student throughout the school year. She shows such a high level of self-motivation and a determination to do her very best at all she does. Rachel has shown up to every meeting Ms. Kaiser has had and has turned in every assignment without complaint and without delay. She is a funny, kind, and hardworking student who deserves to be Crusader of the Week! Congratulations, Rachel!

Mrs. Hartwig nominated Riley Bowen as Crusader of the Week for English I. Riley displays a tremendous work ethic by coming to every class prepared and willing to put forth 100% effort. She thinks critically and analytically while actively participating in class discussions to help her peers improve their own understanding of the material. Riley brings a positive attitude to class each day and even during the difficult times of NTI, has completed all work in a timely fashion and with just as much effort. Riley is a pleasure to have in class. Congratulations and keep up the great work, Riley!

Mrs. Shea nominated Danny Veselsky AAIMS Crusader of the Week. Danny is a committed and conscientious young man. He is always grateful. Danny always leaves class (or video conference) with a “Thank You and Have a Great Day!” He is eager to take on responsibilities by being a group leader, a note-taker, and a spokesperson. He does not back down from adversity. He has shown his determination by being resourceful and has a serious attitude towards his studies and works very hard to improve himself. Danny is self-motivated and has a bright future ahead of him. Aside from academics, Danny is considerate, polite, and brings a positive energy to our class! Congratulations Danny!

Food Drive to Benefit Be Concerned and Mary Rose Mission

This Friday, May 15, from 8 pm – 10 pm, during Light Up the Night at SHDHS, a group of rising seniors will be collecting food and household items for Be Concerned/United Ministries and Mary Rose Mission in the parking lot. The food drive is in response to the growing need for donations to help families Northern Kentucky.

High-demand food items for Be Concerned/United Ministries include canned fruit, canned vegetables (excluding corn), pasta, beans, canned meats such as tuna and chicken, Chef Boyardee products, and oatmeal/cereals. Other requested items include diapers and baby formula.

Mary Rose Mission is no longer accepting canned goods but would appreciate Kroger, Remke, and GFS gift cards so that they may purchase ingredients for their takeout meals. Cash donations are also accepted.

As you drive through campus on Friday night, students will be on hand to take your donations so you don’t have to leave your car. If you are unable to attend Friday night, but would like to make a donation, collection bins will be available throughout the day on Friday near the main entrance.

Please consider giving in this time of extreme need. Thank you!

Congratulations to Sasha Menzer, Mitchell Wolking, and Riley Spellman – Crusaders of the Week, May 4-8

Mr. Wischer nominated Sasha Menzer as Crusader of the Week. Sasha has consistently been one of the top students for Honors Geometry throughout the school year. She is conscientious and hard-working, as well as a good classmate. She responds to questions, poses her own thoughtful questions, and collaborates well with fellow students in groups. Sasha is respectful to teachers and fellow students, and is a positive example for others. During the NTI period, Sasha was consistently in the class conferences and would always respond to questions. She was often helpful in checking for errors and difficulties in the materials. Sasha is a pleasure to have in class.

The Crusader of the Week for Latin I goes to Mitchell Wolking. Earlier this year, Mitchell showcased his creativity by making a video retelling the myth of Pandora. While this was for an assignment, Mitchell went above and beyond what was needed to create an engaging and hilarious video that no one in his class will soon forget. Mitchell’s involvement in Latin class consistently shows the same dedication; he is always quick to participate in class discussions and ask questions if he doesn’t understand something. Mitchell is further displaying his dedication to Latin by enrolling in Latin II Honors for next year. Keep up the good work, Mitchell, and congratulations!

Deacon Larry Kleisinger nominated Riley Spellman for Crusader of the Week in Religion II. Throughout the year, Riley was supportive of all that we did in class, and she was a great example of how a student should act. Riley helped keep the class on track, she is a great student and is there for others if they need her. Riley seems to have a good grasp of what’s going on in the world and was a pleasure to have in class.
