Drug Free Clubs of America St. Henry Chapter!

We are excited to announce the start of the Drug Free Clubs of America St. Henry Chapter! This club offers us the opportunity to give parents another tool to help in the fight against drug use. The club uses incentives to positively encourage students to take pride in their drug free status.

How Does it Work?
DrugFree America @ SHDHSAll students in the club will be drug tested here at school initially, then club members will be randomly tested throughout the year ( 5% of total student membership each time). Parents, not the school, will be notified of the results. Again, we stress this is an incentive based parenting tool. Each student in the club must present his or her card at incentive events ( examples- pizza party, early lunch or dismissal, donut breakfast etc.) or to community members who offer rewards. If he or she tests positive, Ms. Ferguson of Drug Free Clubs personally collects the student’s card, and they will not be able to participate in the club or incentive events until they again test drug free. Parents are notified and then connected with a local medical professional who will help them find the appropriate resources.

Why Isn’t This Club Mandatory?
This voluntary model is in place at many of our local schools, and in 3 states with 65 chapters (many chapters have multiple schools)! It is the standard of Drug Free Clubs of America. With students choosing to participate, supported by their family, school, and community, students develop a sense of pride that lasts beyond the high school years. The mandatory model is a pilot program that is being studied for efficacy in long term results at one school and is not available to us at this time.

How Can I Find Out More?
We know that you will want to know all about the club, and there is only so much we can say in an email, so we are hosting a MANDATORY PARENT (no students please) meeting on November 28th at 6:30 PM. We ask that at least one parent or guardian from each family be present. The evening will begin with Officer Adam Argullin Drug Recognition Expert and Dare Instructor of the Florence Police Department. He will be presenting “Current Drug Trends,” helping parents and staff be aware of drugs and their use in our community. Then Ms. Angie Ferguson of Drug Free Clubs of America will present information about the club and answer questions. Sign-ups are now open –, or you can sign up that evening!

What Is The Cost?
Thanks to the extreme generosity of Arlinghaus Plumbing, Heating, and Air Conditioning we are able to offer this opportunity to our students for $35! The actual cost per student is $67! They are also offering 2- $500 St. Henry scholarships to be raffled to those in attendance on November 28th, who sign up their children (one raffle entry per student signed)!

How Can I Help?
Support our club! This can be done by positively promoting our club with other parents, providing financial support, providing an incentive at school or in the community, or by donating your time, but the most important way for you to help is to encourage your children to SIGN UP! More information will be available at the November 28th meeting. Finally, we ask for your prayers that this is a successful endeavor that gives our students a reason to, “just say no,” and a way to celebrate those that are proud to be Drug Free!
