The Culinary Cru are among the best in the state of Kentucky!

The team of Sarah Banks and Maia Menzer finished 5th in the state competition held this week at the Kentucky State Fair in Louisville.

The pair made it to the second round of the tournament on Tuesday, August 21 with their Italian Sausage Soup. You may recall the duo made it to the second round in 2017, the first year they competed.

Last school year Lily Marino, a senior, joined Sarah and Maia, but because she is away at college she was not able to join them at the state competition.

The competition is sponsored by the Kentucky Department of Agriculture Farm to School Program. The goal is for students to create recipes that can be duplicated and served in school lunchrooms. In fact, the BBQ Chicken Flatbread recipe that Sarah and Maia came up with in 2017 will be served in the Diocesan high school cafeterias this school year.

Winners at the State Fair are eligible for $16,000 per student in scholarships to Sullivan University.
